Hundreds of people found themselves without power on Thursday morning thanks to moisture from last night's cold front.
Frank Espinoza with AEP Texas told Action 4 News that there were about 1,600 customers in the Harlingen area without power and several scattered in Hidalgo County.
Espinoza said the cause of the outages are pole top fires.
It's all due to the extreme drought in south Texas and strong winds, which accumulate dust in the utility pole equipment.
When it rains this dust turns into a cakey substance that disrupts the pole causing sparks and outages.
Espinoza said crews are working to restore power as soon as possible.
