A Brownsville mother is behind bars after she was allegedly caught on tape beating her children and telling them to stop crying.
Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested 42-year-old Cynthia Ann Cervantes on five counts of injury to a child on Tuesday.
Records obtained by Action 4 News show that alleged incidents were all caught on home surveillance cameras.
According to a probable cause affidavit, her estranged husband Eric Edward Cervantes came forward with the video on Tuesday.
Caught On Tape
Eric Cervantes told deputies that he installed surveillance cameras inside their home last year because he suspected his wife was cheating on him.
Instead of catching of his wife cheating, the cameras allegedly caught her physically and verbally abusing the couple's children.
In one instance, Cynthia Cervantes allegedly used a belt to beat one their children and told the girl, Shut up, stop crying.
In another smiliar incident, the Brownsville mother was allegedly also caught on tape beating one of the children and using profanity while doing it.
Several instances were caught on the surveillance cameras between March and May 2012.
Court records show the couple is involved in divorce proceedings and has a hearing scheduled for Monday.
Jail records show that Eric Cervantes was arrested for assault family violence back in September.
According to the affidavit, Eric Cervantes moved out of the couple TMs home in September and retrieved the video hard drive but claims he did not review it until he came forward with the allegations on Tuesday.
Ricardo Adobbati, an attorney for Cynthia Cervantes in the divorce proceedings, could not immediately be reached for comment.
