Murder victim identified as day laborer from Nuevo Progreso

Authorities have a identified a murder victim whose body was found by a jogger in a sugarcane field north of Weslaco.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies report that 34-year-old Francisco Ortiz-Vicencio died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

A jogger discovered Ortiz-Vicencio's body at a canal bank south of Mile 13 North and Mile 2 West back on October 9th.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Ortiz-Vicencio was from Nuevo Progreso, Tamaulipas.

It's not clear why Ortiz-Vicencio was murdered but deputies said he had no criminal history other than deportations for illegal immigration.

Deputies reported that Ortiz-Vicencio was a day laborer and had no family in the United States.
