You might know him best for his break out role of "Pedro" in hit movie Napoleon Dynamite.
Actor Efren Ramirez is in the Valley for a local film festival.Action 4's Melissa Vega sat down with Ramirez for a one on one interview.
Melissa says, Ramirez, "Your an actor, you've appeared in television shows, and I hear you DJ as well, I'm sure a lot of people might not know that about you.
Ramirez says, "I was born and raised in Los Angeles so one of the many things my older brothers used to do is they used to be DJ's so they taught me how to mix so, that became one of my day jobs to work as a DJ all over the Los Angeles area they funny thing was that would pay for my acting classes so you would find me as a DJ at night and right next to my turn table would be my Shakespeare and I'd be memorizing lines as I DJ, but I got to say working from commercials to TV shows once I did Napoleon Dynamite everything changes completely because my focus was just solely having to build and acting career."
Ramirez says when he read Napoleon Dynamite; he fell in love with Pedro, a humble guy who wanted to be a part of something great.
Ramirez says in his own life, he's dedicated to his family, and his favorite place in the entire world is his home.
Ramirez says, "To me it's tranquility I got a couple of pets, I have squirrels, a blue jay, and a crow and I have a bird, a love bird name Chinchilla.."Ramirez also does a lot of charity work and visits universities and high schools to talk about education. He's even an author.Ramirez says, "I wrote a book called "Direct Your Own Life" and it's about developing a career whether you want to be a reporter, a doctor, lawyer or actor it is possible but in order for that to happen you have to create a step by step program."Ramirez says it's all about focus and dedication and hard work. Ramirez says, "Whether your Latino or not you can make a difference to all you people out there, "Si Se Puede".OPENING WEEKEND will take place at the Harlingen Performing Arts Theatre,1209 Fair Park Blvd, Harlingen, (956) 412-7529 and Texas State Technical College, 1902 Loop 499 N, Harlingen, (956) 364-4441 and the Harlingen Arts & Heritage Museum, 2425 Boxwood Street, Harlingen, TX - (956) 430-8500.SEPTEMBER 10th @ HPAT @ 7p-8p is a reception. 800p-935p is the Argentinian movie MUSICA EN ESPERA.SEPTEMBER 11th12:30p-2:00p @ Workshop Room @ TSTC Cultural Arts Center is the Texas Filmmakers' Showcase presented by the Houston Film Commission2:30p-3:30p @ Workshop Room @ TSTC Cultural Arts Center is the FILM TO FESTIVAL panel.
