Hurricane Harvey stands a good chance of becoming a category three hurricane later today as it marches toward the middle Texas coastline near Port Lavaca.

The storm is expected to push rain bands across the RGV with some tropical storm force wind gusts throughout the day. Cameron and Willacy counties remain under a tropical storm warning. Coastal flooding is also a possibility as a 2 to 4 foot storm surge may impact local beaches.

Rainfall totals through the weekend should peak near 2 inches in the upper Valley and there is a potential for 5 inches of rain along the coast.

Basically, Harvey will only offer the Valley a glancing blow as it steams north.
