Neighbors near the city lake in Harlingen said the Virgin Mary appeared on a mesquite tree that was struck by lightning after a recent storm.
The mesquite tree stump is located on city property near 5th Street and Washington Avenue in Harlingen.
Many people from the Rio Grande Valley have driven by to see what they believe is the silhouette of the Virgin Mary.
Cars are lined up as people wait to catch a glimpse of the silhouette.
One faithful passerby said he visited the site yesterday and returned today to see the silhouette again.
A neighbor in the area said the location was notorious for car accidents in the past.
