Multipurpose Edinburg facility opens, will house professional soccer team
RGV FC Toros, a local professional soccer team, opened the doors to a multipurpose facility in Edinburg Friday.
“Just seeing the pitch and the video board and the seats--It’s a beautiful project, and we're just happy that the community is able to enjoy it,” said RGV FC Toros President Bert Garcia.
The 9,700 seat stadium is funded by H-E-B and will have concession stands, a pro shop, 28 suites, and a scoreboard bar.
“There’s a lot of little neat pieces to this project,” said Garcia. “Pieces that no one else in our league is going to have.”
The facility named H-E-B Park will host United Soccer League matches, Houston Dynamo matches, high school sporting events, concerts, corporate outings and other forms of entertainment.
Garcia says H-E-B Park was designed with fans in mind.
“This is for the community,” Garcia said. “We want to make sure we’re getting better every day, every game, every week.”
The Toros will play their first game at H-E-B Park on March 22 against Soccer Club Monterrey Rayados. Their first official season opener will be March 26 against in-state rival, San Antonio FC.
