Officers seize 12 pounds of cocaine at Gateway International Bridge
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized 12 pounds of cocaine Thursday at the Gateway International Bridge, according to a news release.
When a 32-year-old Brownsville man attempted to cross the bridge from Mexico in a tan 2007 Mazda 3, officers referred him for secondary inspection.
With the help of a K9 unit, officers found five packages of cocaine hidden inside the vehicle, totaling 12 pounds.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection estimate the seizure at a value of approximately $92,480.
Brownsville Port of Entry Port Director Petra Horne stated in the news release:
“We continue to carry out our mission of keeping our borders secure. This seizure is an important one which keeps these dangerous drugs from reaching our streets and I thank our officers for their efforts.”
Officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle, and arrested the driver, who is in federal custody for further investigation.
