A McAllen man is behind bars after he allegedly traveled to Brownsville have sex with someone who he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

Texas Attorney General TMs Office investigators arrested 28-year-old Ernesto Alonso Montelongo on Wednesday.

Court records released on Thursday reveal that the McAllen man was arrested in an on-line sting operation.

The records show that an undercover investigator was in a public chat room posing as a 14-year-old girl.

Montelongo allegedly sent the girl sexually explicit messages and arranged to meet her for a sexual encounter.

Investigators were waiting for Montelongo when he drove more than 67 miles from the McAllen area to Mexico Boulevard near the B&M International Bridge in Brownsville.

Authorities charged Montelongo with one count of on-line solicitation of a minor.

Records show that the 28-year-old man TMs last reported address was off of the 3500 block of Xathisma Avenue in McAllen.

Montelongo remains in the Cameron County Jail under a $40,000 bond.
