One dead, five taken to hospital after Edinburg head on collision

Fatal accident on Monte Cristo Road

Officers responded to the intersection of Monte Cristo Road and Doolittle Road Friday night after two cars had been involved in a head on collision.

Two men were traveling westbound on Monte Cristo Road in a Ford Escort, and the woman and her three children were traveling eastbound on the same road in a Ford van.

Witnesses said the Escort was driving recklessly when it struck the van head on.

The woman and children were taken to a nearby hospital, but they were all okay.

The driver of the Escort suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from the reckage.

His passenger was killed at the scene.

It is not known if the victim was wearing his seat belt. His identity has not yet been released.

Alcohol may have played a role in this accident, and the driver could face charges once he is out of the hospital.
