Authorities are investigating a crash between a bicyclist and vehicle that left one person dead.
The accident happened around 5:50 p.m. on U.S. 281 just north of Hinojosa Road.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a green Chevrolet 1500 pickup was traveling southbound on U.S. 281 when the vehicle lost control.
The Donna driver of the Chevrolet then veered to the right and crashed into the victim as he was on a 26 inch Next Xelit Mountain Bike on the shoulder of the road, also traveling southbound.
DPS told Action 4 News that the vehicle slammed into a mesquite tree after hitting the victim.
It is not known at this time why the male driver veered off the road.
Justice of the Peace Charlie Espinoza pronounced the victim was dead at the scene of the accident.
EMS rushed the 35-year-old male driver to the McAllen Medical Hospital for minor injuries.
The investigation for the crash is ongoing at this time.
