One killed, another to be charged following early morning crash in Brownsville
One person is dead and another is behind bars following an early morning crash in Brownsville on Wednesday morning.
According to Brownsville police, officers were called out to the 800 block of Boca Chica Boulevard around 1:30 a.m. in reference to a major accident involving two vehicles and a fatality.
When officers arrived, according to the report, they saw a white Chevy Malibu with front-end damage and a brown Pontiac G6 with rear-end damage. The report stated that it appeared that the Malibu struck the Pontiac from behind.
The driver of the Pontiac, Abel Michael Rose, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 22-year-old male passenger in the vehicle was taken to the hospital with head injuries and a broken arm. The driver of the Malibu, Samuel Trejo, Jr., 25, was taken to the hospital with injuries to his hip and knee.
Police stated that it’s possible that the Malibu was racing with a silver Nissan Titan pickup but that hasn't been confirmed.
Trejo will be charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault pending arraignment.
The case remains under investigation.
