One of two fugitive gunmen is now behind bars for his role in a botched murder-for-hire in Harlingen.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested 22-year-old Edgar Garces Diaz on Sunday evening.
Garces is a suspect in the April 1st murder of 21-year-old Mayra Bianey Oyervides.
Customs officers reported that Diaz arrived as a passenger in a black Dodge Avenger at Brownsville TMs Veterans International Bridge.
A routine records check revealed that Garces wanted for the murder of Oyervides and the attempted murder of her fiance TMs nephew.
Harlingen police believe Diaz is one of two gunmen who killed Oyervides while trying to kill 18-year-old Leonel Lee Garcia.
Investigators arrested two people, including the man who allegedly hired the gunmen, in the days after the crime but the alleged hitmen reportedly fled to Mexico.
Customs officers turned Diaz over to the custody of Harlingen police who are holding him for questioning.
Harlingen police said authorities are still searching for the second gunmen Margarito Garces Soto.
