Passed out driver gets DWI charge in San Benito

A San Benito man is facing a DWI charge after an officer allegedly found him asleep behind the wheel with the engine on.

San Benito police arrested 28-year-old Jose Luis Trejo on a DWI charge just after 4 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a police lieutenant was out on patrol when he spotted Trejo TMs car.

Trejo TMs white four-door Chevrolet Lumina was parked on a top of a curb off Stenger Road and Freddy Fender Lane.

The lieutenant reported that he saw Trejo asleep behind the wheel with the engine running.

Once awake, Trejo allegedly showed signs of intoxication but refused to perform a field sobriety test and a breath test.

The lieutenant arrested Trejo for driving while intoxicated.

Trejo appeared before San Benito Municipal Judge David Garza where he was issued a $2,000 dollar bond.
