Passenger killed in early morning crash, driver flees scene

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers continue to investigate a single vehicle accident that left one person dead around 4:30 a.m.

Troopers told Action 4 News the vehicle, a Nissan Altima, was traveling westbound on Alberta road at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Altima lost control, struck a chain link fence, and slammed into several trees. According to Troopers the driver of that vehicle fled the scene and a passenger, 31-year-old Edward Gomez of Edinburg was killed.

A woman, who was also in the car, was transported to McAllen Medical and is listed in stable condition.
