A Pharr woman was arrested for attempting to cross an undocumented girl across the border.

The 31-year-old woman was at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge on Thursday evening when U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers caught her.

The woman showed her U.S. passport and presented CBP officers with a U.S. birth certificate, claiming that the 9-year-old was her daughter.

When they were sent to a secondary inspection, a CBP officer noticed inconsistencies with the woman TMs story about their relationship and travel purposes.

Officers discovered that the 9-year-old is a citizen of El Salvador and not related to the woman.

The 31-year-old was incarcerated and pending appearance before a U.S. Federal Magistrate.

The girl was released to U.S. Health and Human Service where she is temporarily being housed.
