Pieces of metal closes Highway 48

Authorities temporarily shut down part of Highway 48 in Brownsville to clean up dangerous metal debris that spilled on the roadway.
It all happened on Highway 48 near the Port of Brownsville late Friday morning.
Authorities told Action 4 that fragments of metal were found on Highway 48 between Brownsville and Port Isabel.
Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio told Action 4 News that a truck pulling a trailer got a flat tire causing the debris to spill on the roadway.
Port of Brownsville Police Chief Carlos Garcia told Action 4 News that several cars traveling on the highway got flat tires from the debris.
Sheriff's deputies rerouted traffic through Highway 100 in Los Fresnos and temporarily shut down Highway 48 to give crews time ot clear the debris.
A witness told Action 4 that the northbound lanes were closed and made it through safely but saw at least 20 cars with flat tires.
