Police: 22-year-old man hospitalized after hit-and-run crash
A 22-year-old man was transported to a San Antonio hospital on Saturday after a motorist hit him on Expressway 83 in Weslaco and did not stop to render aid.
At about 3:15 a.m. Saturday, Weslaco police were dispatched to Expressway 83 on the Farm-to-Market Road 1015 overpass in reference to a crash, according to a news release by the Weslaco Police Department.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a man, who has been identified as Hugo Ernesto de la Garza, was driving to Los Fresnos with his girlfriend, when an argument erupted between the pair. During the fight, the 22-year-old man stopped the car and got out of the vehicle.
"She then jumped into the driver seat and following him," according to the news release. "She was pleading for him to get back in the car, when he for unknown reason stepped into the traffic lane."
A motorist struck de la Garza, and did not stop to render aid.
The vehicle that struck the 22-year-old man is described as a charcoal gray Chrysler 300 with "extensive damage to the front, hood and possibly the windshield," according to the news release. The car is also missing its grille, as it was left at the scene.
Paramedics transported de la Garza to Knapp Medical Center, where he was stabilized and later transported to McAllen Medical Center. The 22-year-old man is currently at a hospital in San Antonio, where he is in serious condition.
