Police: 29-year-old man flees scene of crash, commits robbery
A 29-year-old McAllen man remains in the Hidalgo County jail after police say he fled the scene of a crash and held people at gunpoint early Saturday morning.
At about 2:38 a.m., McAllen police responded to the 200 block of South 15th Street in reference to an automobile/pedestrian accident, according to a news release from the McAllen Police Department. Police say a driver struck a man and woman with his vehicle, then fled the scene.
The man and woman, who were not identified in the news release, were transported to a local hospital. The man sustained serious injuries, according to the news release.
At about 3:13 a.m., McAllen police received reports of a robbery at the 700 block of East Business Highway 83. Two men say a third man held them at gunpoint and demanded money, then left the scene.
McAllen police issued a description of the suspect and his vehicle.
According to the news release, McAllen police responded to the city of Alamo in reference to a suspect in custody.
Upon arrival, McAllen police determined 29-year-old Jose Miguel Pereyra Alfaro of McAllen matched the description of the auto/pedestrian and robbery suspect and arrested him.
Alfaro was charged with intoxication assault, a third-degree felony; two counts of accident involving injury, a third-degree felony; possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony; and two counts of aggravated robbery, a second-degree felony.
A judge set bond at $215,000.
