A woman is behind bars after police say she stole a few thousand dollars that were left behind at a local grocery store.

Prisicyla Ruby Hernandez was arrested by the San Juan Police Department on Saturday, March 1st at 4:30 p.m. after she allegedly stole $3,700 that was left behind in an envelope at an H-E-B.

The criminal investigations unit assisted by the special investigations unit arrested Hernandez at her apartment.

Authorities said she began crying when she opened the door because she knew they were onto the theft.

Most of the money stolen was recovered by the San Juan Police Department.

The woman was seen on video surveillance at H-E-B- taking the envelope with money.

It was determined the 27-year-old already had an active arrest warrant for a previous theft of gasoline, and they were able to locate her at an apartment complex on the 700 block of Easy Bronze Drive in Pharr.

The San Juan Police Department says Hernandez admitted to taking the money even though it did not belong to her.

Authorities add that she had already purchased a large amount of clothes.

A total of $2,900 was recovered by police.

Authorities received a crime stoppers tip, which helped them in their search for the alleged thief.

She will be charged with two counts of theft, police say.
