Police announce 5th arrest in McAllen murder case

The McAllen Police Department announced Thursday that officers have arrested a 49-year-old man accused of participating in the murder of a San Antonio man on June 19, according to a news release from the McAllen Police Department.

Police arrested Avero Alaniz, 49, of McAllen on Wednesday. The McAllen Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Alaniz on Tuesday.

Alaniz is the fifth person accused of participating in the murder of Nicholas Antony Bazan, 41, of San Antonio. Police found Bazan's body on June 19.

McAllen police announced earlier this week that they arrested four people accused of participating in the murder of Bazan, including:

  • Monica Ann Gomez, 34, of McAllen
  • Roberta Martinez, 33, of Pharr
  • Armando Adrian Arebalo, 29, of San Juan
  • Alex Arevalo, 21, of Alamo

Alaniz was charged with capital murder, a capital felony, on Thursday. A judge set bond at $1 million.
