Newly released police documents shed light on a dark secret at Edcouch-Elsa High School.

Newly released police documents shed light on a dark secret at Edcouch-Elsa High School.

The former Mariachi Director, Homero Gutierrez, is accused of having a 2-year sexual relationship with a student while at school.

The allegations state that Gutierrez received naked pictures via text message of the female student who's now a senior.

Neighbors are shocked to learn this type of alleged behavior between an educator and student went undetected for so long.

"I was shocked. I didn TMt think uh.. That TMs crazy," Tino Lara said.

Court documents state the teen had been taking mariachi lessons for about seven years.

The report indicates Gutierrez was the alleged victim's vocal teacher, stating their relationship started by massaging each other.

Her mother spoke to exclusively to Action 4 News back in March before the educator's arrest.

"She was a child she was 16 and he was 35, the mother said.

"The students are vulnerable, you know, and the teachers are like maybe I can do this Lara said.

Documents state the two in question had multiple sexual encounters in the Edcouch-Elsa High School Estudiantina building on campus.

While the alleged victim is now of age, former student Cheyenne Fernandez calls it wrong for any teacher to take advantage of a student.

"If it was like next month and she wouldn't have been 18 that would have been fine. I still don't think that TMs fine, because they are still in high school. The teachers should know better," Cheyenne Fernandez said.

The District's Interim Superintendent, Dr. Richard Rivera said he immediately took action after learning about the allegations.

"What I have done after this incident is I met with all the principals of every campus and I told them there has to be a separation between student and staff," Rivera said.

While Gutierrez faces a criminal charge in court, Cheyenne hopes this serves as an example as to why students and teachers shouldn't be alone.

Gutierrez has not issued a comment since the scandal broke in March.
