Harlingen police took a man into custody after finding him next to an unconscious woman.
According to police, Jose Alfredo Palomino was standing over a woman who was lying on the side of the road in a pool of blood.
During the investigation, a witness said Palomino had knocked the victim unconscious.
The witness said that Palomino repeatedly slammed the women TMs head into the ground until she was knocked out.
Palomino claims he saw the woman on the side of the road and stopped to ask if she was okay.
Officers noticed blood on the 30-year-old TMs shirt, hands and arms.
They also saw blood underneath his fingernails and do not believe it was his own blood.
The victim was immediately transported to Valley Baptist Medical Center and remains hospitalized.
Palomino was charged with aggravated assault and his bond is still pending.
