Police: Man injures officer's knee while being taken into custody

San Benito Police Department: Filiberto Loa

A San Benito man was charged with assault on a public servant, evading arrest and resisting arrest.

While Filiberto Loa was being taken into custody early Sunday morning, he struck and pushed a San Benito police officer.

Police were responding to a domestic disturbance call on the 900 block of Fannin Street.

When officers arrived, Loa fled from the house and led them on a pursuit in his Chevrolet Tahoe.

The chase ended when the 25-year-old led officers back to the home on Fannin Street and attempted to run inside.

That TMs when Loa injured an officer who was taking him into custody.

The officer injured his knee and required medical treatment.

Loa went before Municpal Judge David Garza. He was given a $49,000 bond.

The 25-year-old was taken to the Cameron County Jail.
