POLICE: Man turns to drug smuggling to pay for STD treatment

A Rio Grande Valley man is behind bars after he allegedly turned to drug smuggling to pay for treatment of a sexually-transmitted disease.

La Joya police arrested Jose Antonio Alonzo-Rodriguez on a marijuana charge over the weekend.

Investigators told Action 4 News that an officer pulled over Alonzo-Rodriguez for a traffic stop on Friday.

The officer noticed several bundles with 455 of marijuana inside Alonzo-Rodriguez TMs Chevrolet Impala.

Alonzo-Rodriguez allegedly told police he smuggled the marijuana because he had a sexually-transmitted disease and needed to pay for the treatment.
