A Brownsville real estate agent has been accused of laundering money for a convicted drug trafficker.

Authorities said Freddy Centeno, a licensed real estate agent, helped the trafficker launder the drug money through property purchases in Brownsville.

Operation Spike Strip, a narcotics trafficking and money-laundering organization, targeted a drug trafficking organization under Armando Arambul.

He and others were convicted of transporting multiple loads of cocaine from Matamoros to Houston and other U.S. cities.

Arambul faces up to life in prison.

If convicted, Centeno faces up to 20 years in prison and up to a $500,000 fine.
