Police searching for 4 male suspects accused of vandalizing SPI Visitors Center sandcastle

Police continue to search for four male suspects accused of vandalizing the sandcastle in front of the Visitors Center on South Padre Island early Friday morning, according to a news release from the city.

The city says the incident that caused "major damage" occurred Friday at about 1:40 a.m. The suspects were last seen heading southbound along the frontage road.

If caught, the suspects could face charges of criminal mischief, a state jail felony, and theft, a Class C misdemeanor.

One of the suspects is also accused of climbing the flagpole and stealing the South Padre Island flag. The estimated cost of damages totals $24,000, according to the news release.
