A San Benito woman is facing new criminal charges after police learned she lied during a domestic disturbance and faked her injuries to get her boyfriend in trouble.

San Benito police arrested 25-year-old Evangelina Perez on a false report to a police officer charge last week.

Police officers were originally called to a domestic disturbance on Chapman Street back on April 16th.

Investigators arrested both Perez and her 47-year-old boyfriend Salvador Mercado, Jr. for the incident.

Perez claimed Mercado had scratched her while Mercado claimed Perez threatened to have drug cartel members kill him.

San Benito police reported that investigators later learned that Perez and self-inflicted her injuries.

Perez appeared before a San Benito municipal court judge for the false report charge where she received a $3,000 bond.
