Pot, assault rifle found in Brownsville apartment

      Jaime Benavides Jr.

Two men are behind bars after authorities found marijuana and an assault rifle inside a Brownsville apartment.

Cameron County District Attorney's Office investigators arrested Marco Antonio Cisneros and Jamie Benavides, Jr. on marijuana charges Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators received a tip that a large amount of drugs would be moved at that time.

Court records show that agents followed the two men driving trucks from a gas station off FM 511 and FM 802 to a business off the 1200 block of Palm Boulevard.

Authorities allegedly saw Benavides go inside and out of an apartment above the business.

Agents made their move but Cisneros allegedly tried to run away and was caught down the street.

Investigators allegedly found an assault rifle and a brick of marijuana weighing more than 50 pounds inside the apartment.

Both men remain in custody at the Cameron County Jail under felony possession of marijuana charges.
