Prison gang member accused of shooting at patrol unit

Shooting just east of Rio Grande City

Authorities are asking for the public TMs help in finding a prison gang member who allegedly fired a gun at a deputy just outside Rio Grande City.

It all happened off Lito Garza Street in the Garza Salinas Subdivision just outside city limits around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

The Starr County Sheriff TMs Office reported that deputies were called to the scene after Juan Antonio Perez, Jr. was shooting a gun.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a deputy was arriving at the scene when he saw Perez fire a shot.

The Starr County Sheriff TMs Office confirmed that the deputy was not injured but his patrol unit had been shot in the front passenger door.

Neither deputies nor Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers were able to locate Perez.

Investigators said Perez is a prison gang member and is to be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about Perez TMs whereabouts is asked to call the Starr County Sheriff TMs Office at (956) 487-5571.
