Protestors want detained Dream Act students to be released

A group of Rio Grande Valley residents want local leaders to help bring immigrants back into the United States under the Dream Act.

Protestors rallied outside U.S. congressman Ruben Hinojosa's office in Edinburg today.

They want him to sign a letter of support requesting that 35 Dreame Act students that are detained, be released.

The detained students reportedly fear for their lives and want to be allowed back into the United States legally.

"It would greatly enhance our case because they are not being allowed to stay in the United States, they are being threatened with being deported and it would really show a lot of support from the Democrat side, said protestor Anselmo Suarez.

Hinojosa previously signed a letter in support of other dreamers, who were all released.

Today's protesters are hoping he will do the same for this group.
