Authorities are blaming early morning rain for a nine-car pileup that spanned two cities in the Mid-Valley.
The string of accidents happened on the eastbound lanes of Expressway 83 between La Feria High School and the Outlet Mall in Mercedes.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers are investigating the accidents.
Investigators believe slick roads were the blame for the accidents.
Traffic backed up for at least two miles after authorities diverted traffic off the expressway and on to the frontage road.
