Ramon Ayala's family protests in Mexico City

The family of jailed Norteo musician Ramon Ayala held a protest in Mexico City where they urged American authorities to step in for his release.

Mexican authorities jailed the Hidalgo, Texas-based musician at after he was found playing at a drug cartel TMs Christmas party earlier this month.

Three people were killed in a shootout between guests at the party and authorities.

Ayala and other musicians at the party have been held in Mexico City where family members held a protest for his release on Monday.

The El Milenio newspaper reported that Ayala TMs daughter Yessenia accused the Mexican Attorney General TMs Office of illegally holding her father.

The jailed singer TMs daughter told El Milenio that the family is reaching out to Congressmen from the Rio Grande Valley and the American Embassy in Mexico City for help.

Ayala was born in Monterrey, Mexico but later became an American citizen.
