A Harlingen man is behind bars after deputies investigating a domestic violence incident learned he allegedly raped the woman he's also accused of beating.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested 28-year-old Eberardo Ramos on multiple criminal charges on Sunday.

Court records released on Tuesday show that deputies were called to a home on the 20700 block of Godwin Road outside Harlingen city limits late Sunday morning.

Deputies reported that Ramos got into an argument with the woman because she lost her cell phone and car keys while going out the night before.

The woman told deputies that Ramos also wanted money but she wouldn TMt give him any because she was afraid he would use it to buy cocaine.

Ramos allegedly pushed the woman and her 2-year-old boy to the ground during an argument where he also smashed her laptop.

The woman was injured from the fall and told deputies that Ramos had raped her last week when she felt sick but he insisted on having relations with her.

Action 4 News does not identify victims of sexual assault but court records reveal that Ramos knew the woman.

Deputies arrested Ramos at his mother's house off Drew Avenue in San Benito and charged him with sexual assault, assault family violence, injury to a child and criminal mischief.

Ramos appeared before a Cameron County Magistrate Judge Alfredo Padilla where he was issued $22,000 in bonds.

Court records show that Ramos once served 12 months of probation for a June 2005 domestic violence incident.

Ramos remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail.
