Some 19 illegal immigrants are behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley as part of a nationwide crackdown targeting criminal illegal immigrants.
U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested some 2,900 illegal immigrants across the United States as part of Operation Cross-Check.
The operation took place over the past week involving 1,900 law enforcement officials in all 50 states last week.
Those arrested were identified as illegal immigrants with criminal records ranging from murder to drugs to sex crimes and other offenses.
ICE officials reported that 76 arrests were made in South Texas. Of those arrests, some 19 arrests were made in the Valley.
