A judge has denied bond for a man accused in a San Benito cold case where authorities are seeking the death penalty.
Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies charged 32-year-old Willie Martinez Guerra on a capital murder charge on Saturday.
Authorities arrested Guerra in San Antonio.
Deputies took custody of him on Friday night and brought him to Cameron County.
Guerra appeared before Cameron County Magistrate Judge Luis Saenz on Saturday morning.
The Cameron County District Attorney's Office told Judge Saenz that prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty against Guerra.
Judge Saenz denied bond for Guerra, who appeared with his attorney Rene Flores.
Guerra is accused in the March 2005 death of murder witness Alex Villarreal.
Sheriff Omar Lucio said Villareal's body in a rural San Benito resaca known as "La Piedrita" -- in an area behind the city's industrial park.
Villarreal was a witness in a shooting death outside the former Club NCO nightclub in Harlingen back in August 2004.
Records show that Guerra has several arrests in Cameron County for charges including drugs, assault, theft and criminal mischief between 2005 and 2009.
