The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office arrested a 21-year-old Mission man, more than a year after he sexually assaulted an Edinburg teen, according to the criminal complaint against him.

On Feb. 25, 2016, Hidalgo County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Edinburg in reference to a sexual assault that occurred on Feb. 18, 2016 in rural Mission.

Deputies met with a 16-year-old's father, who told deputies his daughter was sexually assaulted by 20-year-old Rogelio Gonzalez.

The criminal complaint states that the father became concerned about his daughter when he saw a Facebook post and learned she was "talking to" Gonzalez.

The 16-year-old victim later told her parents that she had sexual intercourse with Gonzalez at his house, according to the criminal complaint. The father filed sexual assault charges on Gonzalez on behalf of his 16-year-old daughter.

Sheriff's investigators spoke to Gonzalez over the phone, who was working in the state of Wyoming, when he admitted to having sexual intercourse with the 16-year-old victim at his house on two occasions, according to the criminal complaint.

Gonzalez also admitted to the sexual assault act to the Rawlins Police Department in Wyoming in a video interview, according to the criminal complaint.

Gonzalez was charged with sexual assault, a second-degree felony. He was booked into the Hidalgo County jail on Friday, and couldn't be reached for comment.

A bond has not been set as of Friday afternoon.
