Records: 42-year-old Edinburg man accused of sexually assaulting woman
Police arrested a 42-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a woman after watching “Fifty Shades of Grey”, according to a criminal complaint.
On July 26 at about 6:46 p.m., police met with a woman who claimed Juan Francisco Bernal, 42, of Edinburg sexually assaulted her, according to the criminal complaint.
The woman stated earlier that day, Bernal picked her up from her home, bought snacks and alcoholic beverages at a local grocery store then drove her to his Edinburg home.
While at Bernal's residence, the woman says she drank several wine coolers. Bernal "asked her if she had ever done shots", then proceeded to serve the woman several "shots of Oso Negro (Vodka)", according to the criminal complaint.
Police say the two moved to Bernal's bedroom to watch the movie "Saw", but Bernal suggested they watch the movie "Fifty Shades of Grey", instead.
According to the criminal complaint, that's when Bernal "made her get some ice cubes and rub them on his chest."
When the woman told Bernal she felt uncomfortable and wanted to go home, Bernal “told her that she needed to sober up first and told her to take a shower,” according to the criminal complaint.
The woman stated Bernal followed her into the bathroom, then proceeded to sexually assault her, according to the criminal complaint.
During an interview with police, Bernal implicated himself, according to the criminal complaint.
Bernal was charged with sexual assault, a second-degree felony. He was booked into the Hidalgo County jail on Tuesday on a $75,000 bond. He remains in custody, and couldn't be reached for comment.
