Records: Man, 69, arrested after soliciting sexual favors from undercover cop
Investigators arrested a 69-year-old McAllen man accused of soliciting sexual favors from an undercover cop, according to a criminal complaint.
On Nov. 7, investigators say 69-year-old Jose Luis Leija of McAllen made contact with an undercover policewoman conducting a "prostitution detail" at an apartment complex on the 2500 block of West Maple Avenue.
After the policewoman requested to borrow Leija's cellphone, he reportedly invited her inside his apartment. During their conversation, Leija asked the undercover policewoman —who repeatedly said she was 16 years old— for sexual favors, stating at one point that "everything was ok and not to worry," according to the criminal complaint.
The policewoman left Leija's apartment without incident. An arrest warrant for Leija was issued Nov. 8.
McAllen police received similar reports from different women on June 8, and Nov. 3, saying Leija offered to pay them for sexual favors, according to the criminal complaint.
Leija was charged with criminal solicitation of a minor, a third-degree felony.
He was released from the Hidalgo County jail on Friday and couldn't be reached for comment.
