      Records: Rape suspect blames past sexual abuse for behavior

      A McAllen man is behind bars on rape charges but claims he committed the crime because he was sexually abused as a child.

      McAllen police booked 24-year-old Marco Antonio Rodriguez into the Hidalgo County Jail on a sexual assault charge late Wednesday night.

      Court records obtained by Action 4 News show that Rodriguez is accused of raping a 16-year-old girl back in February 2010.

      Now 19 years old, the young woman came forward with the allegations in May.

      Action 4 News does not identify victims of sexual abuse but the records show that Rodriguez had access to the victim through her family.

      According to the records, Rodriguez allegedly told one of the victim's family members that he sex with her and two of her female relatives.

      The 24-year-old allegedly confessed to the victim's relative saying that he did because he was sexually abused by an older woman when he was younger.

      Court records show that a warrant for Rodriguez's arrest was issued on June 13th but tha the was not arrested until last week.

      Rodriguez remains in custody at the Hidalgo County Jail under a $15,000 dollar bond.
