U.S. Border Patrol agents have found the remains of three suspected immigrants on South Texas ranches in recent days, adding to a total that is outpacing last year's.
The agency's Rio Grande Valley sector, which encompasses a stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border in southernmost Texas, says one body was found Saturday and the other two Monday on ranches in Brooks County.
Smugglers guide groups of immigrants entering the country illegally on three-day treks around the Border Patrol checkpoint in Falfurrias.
Agents have found the remains of more than 70 people this fiscal year, up more than 110 percent from the same period last year.
Agents also rescued a man and a woman from Mexico on Monday who were abandoned by their guide. They were able to activate a rescue beacon.
