Rick Morales wins mayoral seat in Donna runoff election
Rick Morales won the Donna mayoral seat Tuesday night, according to official results from the Hidalgo County Elections Department.
Morales won about 54 percent of 2,106 ballots cast in the Donna mayoral runoff election. Simon Sauceda won about 46 percent of the vote.
The runoff election comes after neither Morales or Sauceda were able to get the 50 percent needed in the November election.
Arturo "Art" Castillo won Donna council member Place No. 3, according to official results from the Hidalgo County Elections Department.
Castillo won about 53 percent of 2,085 votes, while Place 3 council-member candidate Guadalupe "Lupita" Bueno secured about 47 percent of the votes.
Only 19 percent of registered voters participated in the Donna runoff election, according to the Hidalgo County Elections Department.
