Rio Grande Valley reportedly has the highest unemployment rate in Texas, but one organization is trying to change that.
Workforce Solutions can help job seekers find childcare, provide job training programs and help businesses find programs that will help pay for job growth training.
"I never found a job," said Karla Lozoya.
Lozoya said she worked packing poultry up north but had to stop after getting arthritis in her hands, and she said she's had no luck finding a job since.
"Most of the jobs you have to have your GED and it's really hard without it," said Lozoya.
Lozoya's daughter Julia said she's trying to find a job to help out and to feed her two children.
"Right now, I'm looking for anything right now because i really need the money for my kids," said Julia Lozoya.
For job seeking guidance there are some organizations out there.
Workforce Solutions CEO Yvonne Bonnie Gonzalez said there are several programs that Workforce Solutions runs that could help families like the Lozoya's.
"The resume writing class, job preparation courses that we offer those are all free of charge. The other thing that an unemployed individual can do is sign up in workintexas.com," said Gonzalez.
There, Gonzalez said employers can find potential employees through a database, and Gonzalez said it's better to do it sooner than later.
"The longer you are unemployed in this economy, the harder it is to find a job," she said.
Gonzalez said there are jobs out there and Texas like other states was hit hard economically, but with the right skills, an unemployed person can turn their life around.
"Anybody who needs help or support, we encourage you to come to one of our career centers," said Gonzalez.
She also recommends the unemployed to join job clubs and attend sessions where there's free advice and training for job searches.
