Roaches at a raspa stand, owner gives the Food Patrol icy reception

      Summer Delite had 12 demerits

Roaches turn up at Summer Delite on 2009 Lissner Avenue in Donna.

"You're kidding me," Gabriel Calderon said. "You just ruined my raspa."

The raspa stand scores 12 demerits on a health inspection report.

Gabriel jokes about the roaches leading to a new flavor at the stand.

      "Roach-A-Dilly," he said.

The Food Patrol is given an icy reception by the owner.

"What happened? Action 4's Ryan Wolf asked.

"Well, it doesn't concern you," Bob Penitas, owner said.

"You don't think it concerns us?" Ryan asked. "We report to the viewers and the viewers spend their hard earned money here, right?"

"Yeah," Bob responded. "But we've been fumigating. As far as I know it's been fumigated."

McDonald's inside the Wal-Mart on 1310 North Texas Boulevard in Weslaco is the dirtiest this week on Food 4 Thought.

      The restaurant scores 30 demerits.

An inspector finds a lot of flies, expired dipping sauce, employee drinks over the food prep area with burgers and dirty equipment with a large amount of grease accumulated.

The Food Patrol questions management about what's been done to clean up but they get Mc-kicked out.

"I'm just following up on the inspection after you guys had 30 demerits." Ryan said.

"We cannot provide any information and you cannot tape either," a manager said.

Wing Stop on 1504 West Expressway 83 in Weslaco scores a lot of demerits too.

There are 26 on a report.

The violations are for no hairnets, missing labels on foods, a hand wash station inaccessible, toxic items improperly stored, an expired health permit and flies, according to a kitchen cop.

Apparently the flies were a big concern.

"There were a lot of them," Joe Pedraza, the inspector said.

Roy Madrigal addresses that issue with the Food Patrol.

      He's the restaurant's assistant manager.

"That's why they cleaned that part already and we started little by little fixing all of the things that we had to do," Roy said.

Church's Chicken on 515 West 2nd Street in Mercedes is this week's featured top performer with zero demerits!

Jesus Gomez is all smiles with his new sticker from the food patrol.

"We do everything here to keep it clean and safe!" he said.

That's music to Marcela Villarreal's mouth.

She's eating inside the restaurant when the sticker is awarded.

"It makes me feel confident to come to Church's to eat," she said.

You know what the Food Patrol says to that: "Keep it clean!"
