Roma ISD picked one of their own to lead the school district.

School board members voted to appoint Carlos Guzman as superntendent during their meeting on Monday evening.

Guzman beat out 16 candidates for the job and is expected to take his post on July 1st.

A native of Roma, Guzman graduated from Roma High School back in 1983.

Guzman earned his bachelor TMs and master TMs degrees from The University of Texas-Pan American but earned his Superintendent Certificate from Texas A&M University at Kingsville in 2010.

Starting off as an English teacher at Roma Junior High School in 1986, Guzman rose through the ranks eventually becoming an administrator for the district.

I am overjoyed and extremely humbled by this decision, Guzman said in a statement. In my many years with the district and in education, I TMve worked hard to learn everything possible about Pre-Kinder to 12 education from classroom management and teaching, to operations and administration. I am 100 percent committed to making Roma ISD the safest, healthiest environment for our community TMs youth to learn and grow.
