Roma man stabs wife, himself with kitchen knife

A Roma couple is awaiting surgery after a fight escalated to violence.

Starr County Deputies responded to a home on Hawk Street in Roma on Tuesday at 2:30 pm.

Investigators tell Action 4, deputies found 58 year-old Francisco Villegas inside with self-inflicted stab wounds.

Villegas and his wife got into an argument that ended when he stabbed his wife in the chest and abdomen with a kitchen knife, and then stabbed himself.

Authorities said the female victim drove herself to the Starr County Memorial Hospital where she was stabilized then transferred to McAllen Medical Center.

Villegas was taken directly to McAllen Medical Center for treatment.

Both Villegas and his wife are currently in stable condition awaiting surgery.

Charges are pending the outcome of an investigation.
