San Benito chase suspect stopped by his dad

A San Benito man is behind bars following a high-speed chase where he bailed out of the car but was stopped by his own father.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers arrested 21-year-old Juan Martin Barron, Jr. on Sunday afternoon.

Court records reveal that a state trooper was patrolling FM 2520 south of San Benito when he saw Barron speeding in a blue pickup truck in Espinoza Road.

Barron allegedly refused to stop and led the state trooper on a chase that ended at the Barron family home off Landrum Road.

Records show that Barron fled on foot in the driveway but was stopped by his father.

The state trooper handcuffed Barron but the chase suspect allegedly struggled.

Investigators charged Barron with evading arrest in a motor vehicle and evading arrested on foot.

Barron did not appear to have a criminal record and it TMs not clear why he led the state trooper on the chase.

The 21-year-old suspect remains in custody at the Cameron County Jail under $15,000 in bonds.
