San Benito CISD's new ambulance simulator helps students get 'real world' experience
The Emergency Medical Technicians Program at San Benito CISD's Veteran Memorial Academy was gifted with a new ambulance simulator to practice rescuing skills.
"It is much easier than having your standard lecture and lab in the classroom setting," said EMT Instructor Jaime Ibarra.
Veteran’s Memorial Academy recently received $150,000 worth of equipment, including the ambulance simulator.
"With this simulator, they get to experience the challenges that they would face in a pre-hospital setting, with the confined spaces and the movement of the ambulance aspect of it," Ibarra said. "They get that feel for it as far as how it is in the real world."
San Bentio CISD’s Health Services Program does more than educate future EMTs—students could save close to $6,000 on tuition.
With the new equipment, students are able to obtain four certifications in either advanced airway management, emergency pharmacology, EKG ratings or EMT certifications.
