San Benito dad fears daughter was taken to Valle Hermoso

A San Benito father is reaching out to law enforcement officials and asking for the public's help after his estranged wife has not returned their daughter in more than a month.
Carlos Carpio told Action 4 News that his estranged wife Francisca Castillo took their 4-year-old daughter Melva Anahi Carpio back on February 20th.
The girl's mother was supposed to bring their daughter back to Carpio's rural home off Casey Road but never returned.
"She's my princess," Carpio told Action 4 News. "I don't care if she's with another man. I just want my daughter back."
Carpio said Castillo has called him using a private number and even posted pictures to Facebook but doesn't let his family see or talk to Melva.
The San Benito dad told Action 4 News that Castillo is an illegal immigrant from Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas and may have taken Melva there.
With regular reports of gun battles and drug cartel decapitations common in Valle Hermoso, Carpio said he fears for the safety of his daughter.
Carpio said his daughter is also a special needs child with ADHD and other medical problems and that she's already missed doctor's appointments.
The San Benito father said he is going to divorce Castillo and seek custody of the children.
Carpio's family has filed a report with the Cameron County Sheriff's Department and reached out to the Border Patrol and immigration officials.
Court records show that Carpio has a criminal past including criminal mischief, burglary and marijuana back in 1995.
He served some jail time, successfully completed probation and stayed out of trouble.
But the records show he currently has an injury to a child charge filed against him in the 138th State District Court in Brownsville.
Carpio told Action 4 News that his wife put their son up to make the false charges back in 2010 so she could be with another man.
The couple's son now lives with Carpio and his family
The San Benito dad has a June court date and is fighting the charge with the help of Los Fresnos-based attorney Gustavo Garza.
Anyone with information about whereabouts of Castillo or Melva is asked to call the Carpio family at (956) 970-8091.
