San Benito family searches for answers in man's death

Alma Garcia and her family are still searching for answers.

"It's hard not to know what happened, he's our baby brother", said Garcia.

Garcia's brother 34-year- old Jose "Joey" Mendoza was hit by an unknown driver as he was walking home on Sam Houston in San Benito back on October 10th.

The hit and run accident happened around two a.m.

"That's all I know he started walking, and then I got a call telling me that my brother was in a car accident that he was in critical condition", said Garcia.

Months have passed and still the family has no idea who is responsible for Mendoza's death.

"No one has come forward, even to say I'm sorry it was an accident", said Mendoza.

But the family is not giving up hope, even putting of flyers around the community.

Mendoza's family is also collecting money for a reward leading to information in the case.

"They've been very kind, it's hit a lot of people in their hearts trying to help us out."

"It makes you feel good that people do care", said Garcia.

While Joey Mendoza's family has the support from the community the family is still not a peace.

"Hoping someone will come forward and let us know what happened, we need answers", said Garcia.

Harlingen area Crime Stoppers is offering up to a 1,000 dollar reward for information in this case, anyone with information is urged to called (956) 425-TIPS.
